Wayne B. Jonas, MD, is the president and chief executive officer of
Samueli Institute, a nonprofit medical research organization in Alexandria, Virginia, supporting the scientific investigation of healing processes and their application in health and disease. Jonas was the first director of the Office of Alternative Medicine at the National Institutes of Health (1995-1999) and led the World Health Organization Collaborative Center for Traditional Medicine. Prior to that, he served as the director of the medical research fellowship at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, Silver Spring, Maryland, and was special consultant in health promotion for the Office of the Surgeon General of the US Army.
